Kaila Beauty Bar and Med Spa Opening in Encinitas

The doors are slated to open this fall off El Camino Real, next to the Home Goods store.

Pamela Vizanko spent more than a decade working aesthetics industry, selling medical-grade skincare products and injectable cosmetic treatments to physicians. It was during one of these routine visits to a doctor that she had an ‘a-ha moment’ that changed the course of her life.

“I was in the waiting room and the woman seated next to me said, ‘I’ve been here for 45 minutes—and really, it wouldn’t be so bad if there was something for me to do, like shop,’” Vizanko recalls.

That’s when the light bulb went of. Vizanko thought the woman made a valid point—and soon, the wheels in her head were turning.

Vizanko is now bringing that idea to fruition. This fall she’ll launch Kaila Beauty Bar and Med Spa off El Camino Real, next to the Home Goods store. The 2,791-square-foot-space will be one part retail boutique, and one part med spa. The idea is that clients can come in for a treatment, and knock out some shopping while they wait to see the doctor—or, if they have a girlfriend or husband in tow, they'll have something to help them pass the time.

The space will be dived into halves divided by a glass wall, and each side will have its own entrance.

The retail side will include products from about 30 local vendors, including adult and children apparel, jewelry, handbags, toys, books, art, and collectibles. Vizanko likens it to some other nearby boutiques that carry a mix of local vendors, like Pangaea Outpost in Del Mar and Leaping Lotus in Solana Beach.

The medical spa side will carry healthcare products and skincare lines. There will be two aestheticians offering services like facials, waxing and microdermabrasion. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Robert Kearney will lead the medical team, which will offer laser treatments and injectable cosmetic treatments, such as Restylane, Perlane, Artefill, Botox and Dysport. Vizanko says there will also be a private entrance for patients who prefer to be discreet.

“I think the two aspects of this business compliment each other nicely,” Vizanko said, adding that she predicts this concept will soon become more common, noting that several salons have also started adding retail spaces.

Vizanko, a mother of three children, also designs her own line of clothing for toddlers, Kaila Girl, which will be sold at the store. After recently switching seamstresses for the line, Vizanko found herself with about $4,000-worth of excess clothing, which she chose to donate to kids in need at Rady Children’s Hospital. Vizanko says once she opens her business in Encinitas, she intends to also help support the local community.

Kaila Beauty Bar and Med Spa is located at 282 D N. El Camino, north of Encinitas Blvd. and south of Garden View Rd. (in the space formerly occupied by City Kids). Vizanko anticipates her business will be open some time between late September and early October—and Encinitas Patch will keep you posted on updates.
