Locals Only: Dax Dizon

Every dog has his day in Encinitas.

The phrase “a dog’s life” may have negative connotations, but not when it comes to a pup like Dax. The 6-year-old Maltese-Poodle is living large in Cardiff with his owner Brenda Dizon, who is a loan consultant with RPM Mortgage and president of Cardiff 101 MainStreet, which organizes the This year’s event takes place Aug. 13, and you’re sure to see Dax among the canine crowd. Here, Dax—with some help from his owner—shares what he loves about living in Encinitas:

FAVORITE LOCAL PARK: I love Cardiff’s Carpentier Park—so many good smells and easy to walk!

FAVORITE PLACE TO GO FOR A WALK: Cardiff Reef to Cardiff Seaside Beach and back. When I get too hot, I just jump in the ocean.

FAVORITE PET SUPPLY STORE: Dirty Dogs

LAST THING YOUR OWNER BOUGHT FOR YOU: Treats!

FAVORITE CAFE TO EAT AT WITH YOUR OWNER: I really like eating in the courtyard in front of Seaside Market. I get lots of attention from strangers and friends.

FAVORITE ACTIVITY AT DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: Being blessed by the monks!

FAVORITE VETERINARY OFFICE: Cardiff Animal Hospital. They are very nice to me and my house buddy, Nirvana (he’s a cat).

FAVORITE GROOMER: Grooming Tails. I’m always really nervous when I realize I’m spending part of my day there but, wow, I’m very handsome afterward!

WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT LIVING IN ENCINITAS:  Being outside a lot! The park, the hill in my neighborhood, and spending time at the beach.

PLACE YOU WISH YOU COULD GET INTO WITH YOUR OWNER, BUT CAN'T:  I’m always tied up outside of Starbucks, patiently waiting for her to get coffee.

FAVORITE ANIMAL NONPROFIT: Rancho Coastal Humane Society!

Support Your Local Sheriffs

The Encinitas Sheriff Station hosts a local event to mark National Night Out, which promotes good relationships between neighbors and law enforcement, on Aug. 2. There will be free child fingerprinting and hot dogs, plus other giveaways. It takes place from noon to 5 p.m. in front of Target, 1010 N. El Camino Real. Nationalnightout.org.

 

Fun for Kids

Just like Mikey in the old Life cereal commercials, kids are urged to try something new during a day of free mini-classes offered by three child-friendly business in neighboring suites in a New Encinitas shopping center. The Cove, Stage Door Dance Kids, and Wonders offer lessons for toddler to teens in everything from Mandarin to hip hop dance to filmmaking. The Try It Day takes place from 9:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at 257 N. El Camino Real.
