President Barack Obama made a campaign stop in San Diego County on Monday, his first stop in the region for his 2012 re-election bid.

Obama arrived at MCAS Miramar aboard Air Force One at approximately 1:40 p.m. and was greeted by a group that included White House employees and their families who had arrived earlier, Marines and some local elected officials. He then headed to a fundraiser in La Jolla.

The stop in San Diego is one of seven he is taking on the West Coast with a goal of raising $4 million. He visited Seattle on Sunday.

After the La Jolla fundraiser, Obama departed at 4:15 p.m. aboard Air Force One for an evening appearance in Los Angeles.

In his previous campaign, Obama came to San Diego for a fundraiser at the Birch Aquarium in February 2007, spoke at the California Democratic Convention in April 2007 and to the National Council of La Raza annual conference in July 2008.

According to Jess Durfee, chairman of the San Diego County Democratic Party, Obama captured 54 percent of the voters in San Diego County in 2008. John McCain had 44 percent.

One of the only times we might delete readers' comments is when they contain profanity or the suggestion of it. I personally will not allow the conversation to get to that level about anyone on this site and Patch does not support that.

I'll put this in such a way as not to offend the Tipper Gores of the Patch universe. How can any elected official, in good conscience, demand $38,000 from a constituent to ask a question ? The dude has absolutely no shame!

You should be careful Julie. The ACLU may come after you and then who would the Huffington Patch turn to for advice?

We've moderated out profanity written by readers on a variety of subjects over the course of nearly a year. Read on over the course of time and you'll find that I don't dwell at either end of the political spectrum, but more important any opinions of mine are irrelevant to news coverage. I take that seriously.

I just happened to get stuck on the bridge overlooking the freeway when the Presidential motorcade entered the freeway. I don't care what your politics are or who you voted for - there is nothing like seeing the Presidential motorcade pass by. Seriously. It was pretty dang awesome. And I can't believe how close I was. Which of course raises another security question as in - why were people allowed on that bridge?

Careful now. I believe "dang" could be construed as "profanity or the suggestion of it", and may result in the deletion of your post. Censorship can be a very slippery slope and apparently quite subjective as well.

@ Mike. That's actually funny since I hadn't read the earlier posts and just merely entered my comment.
