Occupy Demonstrations Happening Across North County This Weekend

Protesters will be in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside.

The Occupy Wall Street protests have been gaining steam around the world, and North County is proving to be no exception. What started a couple of weeks ago as a single demonstration in Encinitas is now branching out into Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad and Oceanside.

This Saturday at noon — and continuing every Saturday indefinitely — each coastal city will have demonstrators at the following locations:

  • Del Mar: Coast Highway 101 and 15th Street, near Seagrove Park
  • Solana Beach: Coast Highway 101 and Lomas Santa Fe Drive, near Fletcher Cove
  • Encinitas: Coast Highway 101 and Encinitas Boulevard, near Moonlight Beach
  • Carlsbad: Coast Highway 101 and Pine Avenue
  • Oceanside: Coast Highway 101 and Mission Avenue, at City Hall

The protesters are speaking out against what they feel is corruption and greed among the wealthiest one percent of the U.S. population and big corporations. As many as 350 people have turned out for the recent Encinitas protests — but if that number hits 500, a special permit from the city is required, which is why satellite locations are being launched to handle any overflow.

Everyone is welcome to join in the peaceful demonstration, and encouraged to bring signs and American flags.

The greedy ones are not those who provide a product that others willingly pay for but are those who believe money should be forcefully taken from others and given to them.
