Rancho Coastal Humane Society Offering Cat Adoption Promotion

You can adopt two cats for the price of one, just as long as one is a black cat.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release from Rancho Coatal Humane Soceity.

As a noun, "shadow" is defined as, "an area that is not, or is only partially, illuminated." As a verb "shadow" means "to shade."

But at Rancho Coastal Humane Society, "shadow" means that you can adopt a cat or kitten of any color right now, pay the regular adoption fee, then also take home its "shadow" (a black cat or kitten) at no additional cost.

"There are two reasons why we have so many black cats and kittens right now," said RCHS spokesman John Van Zante. "First, it just seems like we received a lot more black kittens this spring and summer. And second, a darker colored cat or kitten sitting in the back of its enclosure or partially hidden behind a that nice, fluffy blanket looks like a shadow. Families think the kitty pen is empty so they keep on going. We're trying to change that. Right now we're making it worth your while to be on the lookout for these 'shadow' cats."

How does the "shadow" adoption special work? Visit the cattery or kittery at
Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas. Find the cat or kitten (of any color) that reaches out its paw and touches your heart. Then select a its "shadow."

Once the adoption is approved you take both cats home—but you only pay for one.

Adoption fees for kittens 6 months and less are $195. Fees for adult cats are $145.

Shadow cats and kittens, like all pets available for adoption at Rancho Coastal Humane Society, are spayed or neutered, have received veterinary examinations, and come with up to date vaccinations and microchip identification.

To meet your new cat and its "shadow" face-to-furry-face visit Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas. Kennels and Cattery are open from 11 am to 5 pm Wednesday through Monday. For more information call 760-753-6413 or log on to www.sdpets.org.
