San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy Now Offers Online Animal Guide

Find out how to spot migratory birds and native critters while you're on your next hike.

Did you know that about 40 percent of all North American bird species have been observed in the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve? The land is also home to dozens of species of reptiles, fish, and mammals.

You can now learn how to spot some of these critters thanks to a new online animal guide offered by the Click on an image of an animal, and you can read a fun fact, learn about its diet, and find out where on the reserve it typically lingers.

Also, just a reminder: there are free guided hikes every Saturday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting at the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center. There’s also a happening now through September. During the summertime, the third Wednesday of the month hikers can meet at Santa Carina Trailhead, and the trek goes from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
