The plant is now eligible for a statewide award.

The California Water Environment Association (CWEA) recently awarded the San Elijo Water Reclamation Facility in Cardiff with the 2011 Plan of the Year title for the San Diego area. The plant will now advance in competition for a statewide award.

“I’m always proud of the staff and their efforts at the plant on behalf of not only the ratepayers, but also the environment,” said Encinitas Councilwoman Teresa Barth, who serves as the Board of Directors Chairperson for the San Elijo Joint Powers Authority (SEJPA), which owns and operates the plant. “I’m looking forward to us also being recognized at the state level. It would be a well-deserved recognition for the efforts at the plant.”

The SEJPA Board of Directors also includes Solana Beach Deputy Mayor Dave Roberts as Vice Chair; Encinitas Councilman Mark Muir; and Solana Beach Councilman Thomas Campbell. Through the leadership and direction of the Board, the SEJPA has also achieved a financial rating of AA by FitchRatings and has accumulated an exceptional environmental performance record.
