What’s Cooking: A Rundown of Restaurants Coming to Encinitas

We've got everything from cheesesteaks to chirashi on tap.

This spring we’ve got a whole new crop of restaurants budding, and few more slated for summertime. Here’s a rundown of a few you’ll want to keep on your radar:

  • The Original Philly Cheesesteak just opened off El Camino Real, in the same In addition to cheesesteak sandwiches, the menu also includes salads and few other hoagies.
  • Encinitas Sushi Lounge will open in the Santa Fe Shopping Plaza.  The restaurant is the brainchild of co-owners Frank Interlandi and Katie Rooney, who both cut their teeth at Sushi on the Rock as the chef and general manager, respectively. They launched Poway Sushi Lounge in 2007, making this their second location. The owners are in the process of staffing their new restaurant and will host a job fair Sunday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They’re looking for people to fill all positions, including sushi chefs, kitchen staff, waiters, and hosts. Anyone interested can stop by to fill out an application, do a quick interview and drop off a resume.
  • Dos Palmas Panaderia and Grill is slated to open in Leucadia May 5—fittingly, Cinco de Mayo. The eatery will serve breakfast, lunch, and of course, plenty of pan dulce and other baked goodies.
  • Fast, casual vegan restaurant Native Foods Café , but that has been delayed to May, according to its website. Encinitas Patch has contacted the company to find out what caused the delay, but there was no response by press time. Once Native Foods Café does open its door, you can expect some not-so typical plant-based dishes (think vegan chili cheese fries)—and most things on the menu will run you about $10 and be ready in 10 minutes or less.
  • The much-anticipated Pacific Coast Grill is shooting for a late May or early June opening, says Beth Bennett, director of marketing and special events for the eatery. The restaurant made a name for itself in Solana Beach, and now that it’s moved locations, aims to win over Encinitas with some of its staples, like Hawaiian-style baby back ribs and shrimp dumplings, as well a few yet-to-be-revealed creations.
  • The Craftsman New American Tavern will also in the space formerly occupied by Savory. Owner Wade Hageman, the mastermind behind Blue Ribbon Pizzeria, told Patch he plans to offer “simple dishes done well,” including house-made sausages and his spin on macaroni and cheese.
