San Diego-based eyewear brand SPY is inaugurating the SPY Del Moto Derby Invitational—the first motocross in San Diego County Fair history—on Sunday, June 17. In concurrence with Father’s Day, SPY will be turning the hallowed Del Mar Fairgrounds from a horse-manure-haven into a horse-powered spectacle, showcasing amateur and professional arena style motocross racing in 250cc and 450cc classes, 65cc and 85cc for young riders, plus unique exhibitions at the famed track during the San Diego Country Fair.
On hand for the excitement is Seven-time AMA Champion and SPY founding team rider Jeremy McGrath, former AMA Motocross Champion Grant Langston and 2011 Supercross fan favorite winner, Kevin Windham. Aside from offering up live commentary on the mic all day, Langston, McGrath and Windham will be signing autographs in the Del Mar Arena, starting at 4:15 p.m.
SPY will also be donating all rider registration fees back to Be The Match, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing bone marrow transplants to patients in need—including Jeremy McGrath’s wife, Kim, currently battling Leukemia.
Open to the public, the first round of racing kicks off at 10:30 AM, and entrance to this beachside motocross experience is granted with a simple purchase of a San Diego County Fair ticket—available online or at the box office.
