SDSU Offers Summer Teen Career Exploration Camps June 25-August 10

San Diego-area teens can leap toward their futures this summer with San Diego State University’s Teen CAMPX Career Exploration Academies. SDSU’s College of Extended Studies will offer nine exciting summer day camps from June 25-August 10.

Ranging from two to five days each, the Teen CAMPX Career Exploration Academies provide teenagers entering grades 9-12 with opportunities to:

Connect with experts
Aspire to new heights
Make new friends
Practice real-world career skills
eXplore new options for your future

Local industry experts will guide you in exploring some of today's hottest careers such as engineering, video game production, crime scene technology, health care, law, TV news production, film-making, entrepreneurship, or culinary arts. In each camp, you'll go behind-the-scenes, gain hands-on experience, and get insider advice on the knowledge and skills you'll need for success in the field of your choice. You can also attend multiple camps to explore a variety of different career interests.

The camps are offered weekdays from 8:30 am to 4 pm at SDSU's Extended Studies/Gateway Centers on the corner of Campanile Drive and Hardy Ave.

Each Career Exploration Academy includes career-related hands-on activities, a tour of SDSU’s campus, and a behind-the-scenes experience to meet experts in the field (considered a great introduction to developing networking skills). In addition to gaining fun summer enrichment that looks great on your college applications, you will earn a certificate of completion, enjoy a pizza party the last day of camp, and will be able to tell your friends, “I’m going to SDSU this summer.”

The price is $359 per five-day camp or $219 per two-day camp. There are discounts for attending multiple camps.

For more information, visit www.NeverStopLearning.net/teen, email teencampx@mail.sdsu.edu or call (619) 594-2517.

Here are comments from previous campers:

“One of the most exciting and interesting things about this camp was being handed a project similar to a real game designer.”

“I had a lot of fun and got a much wider perspective of the different careers in the health care field. This camp made me want to want to become a nurse. Thank you!”

“Best weeks of my summer are always at CAMPX!”

“It was through my internship (at KPBS) that I learned about SDSU’s College of Extended Studies and specifically their TV New Production Camp. I could not have asked for a more amazing week. I can say that my internship with KPBS has taught me a lot about the behind the scenes work, but this week long camp gave me the chance to be an anchor myself and experience the feeling of being in front of a camera on the set of Channel 6.”

-Teen CAMPX 2010 alumni, attending Texas Christian University in Broadcast Journalism

“The most interesting thing about this camp was learning what drew people to choose the job they did and learning if you’re the right type of person for a certain career.”

This is a SDSU Research Foundation Program.

SDSU's College of Extended Studies reaches out to the greater San Diego community, the nation, and the world through a wide variety of lifelong learning classes, seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement courses are offered in many areas of management, leadership, and quality improvement while self-enrichment courses range from accounting to web design. Additionally, the College offers more than 50 certificate programs, online courses, and many other learning opportunities. Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

Hi Edward, I didn't hear any reports on the scanner or from sources of crashes, rescues or hardRead More landings.

The public deserves an objective, unemotional, factual public debate on this proposition. So far IRead More am still leaning toward a yes vote, but I am keeping an open mind at least through this month.

Thanks for your comment, Frank. I'm certain you're not the only grownup reader of the blog - justRead More the only one so far. (At first, I thought some guys were putting me on; they have to be kidding.) You're right, of course, some Democrats voted against the E.R.A. for women. Shamefully, they and a majority of Republicans have defeated each attempt to pass the amendment so far. I still find it almost unbelievable that some of our neighbors think women do not deserve equal rights under the law. I thought that kind of thinking existed only in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and some backwoods places in Tennessee.

'Frank H. Robles', I emplore you from your inference, please quit treating women as 2nd classRead More citizens as your start, toward equal rights and improvement of your relationships to women. This act alone, renders bestowing inordinate Rights or extralegal treatment of women as a group - moot, and aligned with our(American) precepts - as it is wholly unneeded under our Constitution at this time - hopefully, for all time.

Women are in a subordinate role to men for a reason. The responsibilty of bearing and caring forRead More children makes it difficult if not impossible for a woman to support herself during that time. It is the man's responsibility to do this. So for good reason women look for reliable men to to take care of them. In the absence of reliable men big government steps in and becomes the husband. Destruction of the family and ultimately our nation is the objective of women's lib. If you don't like The USA try places like Saudi Arabia where women are treated as livestock. (The Saudis and many other Islamic nations would very much like to take over the USA). Leave it to a sick puppy like Jac Flanders to spatter his verbal vomit all over the message boards. And the indecated masses lap it up like candy

Well said, Nama. I was speechless to see how many people Uncle Ben had influenced during his life,Read More but it's no wonder. There may be one less Ben Taylor in our lives, but Heaven just got a whole lot more fun!

Thanks, Kyle for posting this. I'm not sure how things were in the past, but as a Patch editor, I'veRead More seen that blogging and engaging readers directly is a great way to market a book. Steve Repak, a financial planner with a military-themed personal finance book, blogs regularly on Patch and has recently been featured in National Media.
