Catherine S. Blakespear for City Council

Catherine S. Blakespear throws her hat into the ring in the race for City Council on Cinco de Mayo!
The political season begins in earnest on Monday, May 5th as Encinitas resident Catherine S. Blakespear,
whose family has lived here for four generations, launches her campaign for Encinitas City Council. The
campaign launch party will be held at her family’s historic Encinitas home, where Catherine grew up.
Catherine wants to hear your opinions and as Councilwoman will tackle the issues important to Encinitas
residents. If you would like more information about her, go to www.blakespear4encinitas.com.
Stemming from her family’s long history in the area, Catherine wants to preserve the historically
important parts of our community, and enhance citizen’s quality of life through conscious growth
decisions. Her great grandmother moved here in the early part of the 20th century and owned a restaurant on the beach, when highway 101 was the only road heading north. Her grandmother grew
flowers here in the 1930s and sold them at the L.A. farmers market on weekends. Her grandfather
built Cardiff Elementary School in 1950, and her parents have been active members of the community
throughout their lives. Catherine is a wife and mother, as well an attorney who co-founded her own
firm and understands the concerns of a small business owner. She has been a reporter with the L.A.
Times and the Associated Press and she is currently a member of the Encinitas Traffic and Public Safety
Commission.
