The American Diabetes Association (ADA) office in San Diego has named Encinitas resident Kim Messey as event manager of the 2014 San Diego Tour de Cure, a cycling fundraiser to be held May 17. She will be involved in event management and logistics, marketing, sponsorship and fundraising.

Prior to joining the ADA, Messey spent the past five years with San Diego-based Competitor Group, Inc., creators of the Rock `n’ Roll Marathon events that are currently held in more than 30 U.S. markets. Messey is a fourth generation San Diegan. Her great-grandmother immigrated to San Diego from Portugal’s Azores Islands in 1903. Messey graduated from Rancho Bernardo High School (class of 1998) and the University of California at Santa Barbara (class of 2002), where she competed on intercollegiate softball team. She also holds a master’s degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco (class of 2004).
