The San Diego KOA Resort Goes Gourmet as They Teach Guests to Transform 'Camping' into 'Glamping'

On Sunday, July 20, the San Diego Kampgrounds of America (KOA) Resort, in conjunction with Williams-Sonoma, hosted a glamour-camping, or “glamping” event at the camp, providing guests with sophisticated outdoor decorating and cooking ideas.

The Gourmet Glamping event showcased dining setups in a variety of settings – from Deluxe Cabins with kitchens, to RV sites and Safari Tents. The San Diego KOA Resort’s food and beverage director Courtney Bell also provided camp cooking demonstrations.

While touring the glamping setups at the KOA resort, guests sampled the gourmet snacks, which included watermelon and feta skewers, presented on pink Himalayan salt block platters, jalapeno poppers, and chili cooked over a campfire in a Lodge Dutch Oven.

The San Diego KOA Resort also announced its new onsite restaurant, The Sandcastle Café, which is slated to open this year. The café will serve local beer and wine, breakfast, snacks and dinner in a casual setting.

"We never stop innovating, adding new amenities and surprising guests with new ways to enjoy each other and the outdoors," explained Molly Bell Crawford, the San Diego KOA Resort’s Director of Fun and Recreation.

This Gourmet Glamping event is one of many events the resort offers throughout the year. Other on-site events include a robust summer activities schedule for children and year-round special event weekends such as the Fall Festival, Breakfast with Santa, Chocolate Lover’s Weekend and Wellness Weekend. Campers can catch additional cooking demonstrations with Courtney Bell this year at the San Diego KOA Resort, on Labor Day weekend and also during the Chocolate Lover’s Weekend and Wellness Weekend events in spring of 2015.

Kampgrounds of America, the world’s largest system of open-to-the-public family campgrounds, has nearly 500 locations across the U.S. and Canada with a variety of unique amenities and local attractions, all offering affordable accommodation for those looking to “rough it” in style.
