Are You Ready for Record Store Day?

In Encinitas, Lou's Records celebrates its independent record store status with a free show.

Though many big music sellers are now long-gone—thanks, in large part, to the digital file—several independent record shops still soldier on.

On Saturday, Record Store Day celebrates the unique culture of these shops around the nation. Special vinyl and CD releases are scheduled specifically for the event, and some stores even participate by hosting bands or individual artists.

In Encinitas, Lou's Records will kick off the special day with a free show—The Burning of Rome will play live at 2:30 p.m., and copies of the band's 7-inch EP featuring "Island" and "Cowboy Death-Pop Star" will be on sale.
