Most kids spend their Saturday morning catching up on cartoons, but one group of Encinitas kids will be working to help raise money for a worthy cause.
This Saturday Capri Elementary fourth-grade student Anna de la Fuente and her friends will be hosting a garage sale fundraiser for Voices for Children, a group that provides volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates to abused children in San Diego County.
“The whole idea started when my teacher told us she thinks we’re here for a reason and most people's reason is to help the world,” Anna said. “That day I came home from school saying I am here to help the world and I'm going to start now.”
She organized a group of volunteers and lined up donations for Saturday’s garage sale, which will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at 1808 Wilstone Avenue in Encinitas. You can expect to find plenty of bargains on toys, books, bikes, household items, clothing, and more—all for a very worthy cause, Anna said.
“I chose Voices for Children because when I was thinking about charities to donate to, my Mom told me about Voices for Children, “she said. “Later I looked at their website and thought this sounds amazing!”
“We're hoping to make a lot of money on Saturday, and we really hope it doesn't rain!”
