Encinitas Patch Week in Review

Taking a look back at the week of Jan. 23, just in case you missed something.

This week, Encinitas Patch introduced daily surf reports and a weekly photo contest for your reading pleasure, captured a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Pacific Station, checked up on an attempted kidnapping flier going around Cardiff, profiled six more local brunch favorites, explored the teenage technology gap and more.

Don’t mistake Wednesday’s for a classified ad. It’s news that one of the most noteworthy buildings in Encinitas of late is for sale. Lemongrass Aveda Concept Salon & Spa is packing up its yurt by Jan. 31, after the city ruled the structure violated code.  Now the yurt can be yours—for $9,500.

Can’t get your kid away from his cell phone?  He might say the same about you.  Encinitas Patch contributor Genevieve Suzuki takes a surprising look at the her latest column.  “Thanks to my own amazement at constant technological breakthroughs, I’ve walked around with a total bias toward children of today. There’s no way they won’t grow up to be drones, tied to computers and cell phones, I thought, like something out of The Matrix. But recently I’ve learned that it’s different to grow up in a time of breakthroughs than an era where technology has existed for years,” she writes.

Handwritten fliers posted recently at Cardiff State Beach and Seaside Market containing a sketch of a white male allegedly involved in an case were removed pending further investigation, a state parks official said this week.  The report is being referred to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation.

After years of design and development, community members, local leaders and representatives of project tenants gathered to celebrate the opening of in downtown Encinitas Friday.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the end of construction for the mixed-use project, which will feature a new restaurant, Solace and Moonlight Lounge, as well as a Whole Foods grocery store later this year.
