Encinitas Patch Week in Review

Taking a look back at the week of March 27, just in case you missed something.

This week, Encinitas Patch shone the spotlight on a sixth-grade geography buff, reported the latest on unemployment in Encinitas, questioned local sunshine laws, covered a high school baseball match-up in photos and more.

Park Dale Lane Elementary geography whiz headed to Sacramento on Friday to compete for best in state in the National Geographic Bee.  Though he did not advance to the national level, Encinitas is proud to have such a great Whiz Kid!

La Costa Canyon pitcher Evan Schreiber fired a one-hitter and three other players hit home runs to power the unbeaten team to a 15-1 win over host San Dieguito Academy Tuesday in the North County Tournament.  Check out the pics!

Abercrombie + Fitch landed in hot water with parents this week when the popular chain began selling a controversial new for girls as young as 7.  Our local Moms Council joined the conversation—and you can, too.

Sunshine Week, a national initiative aimed at and freedom of information was celebrated recently by discussing the importance of government transparency and the laws that give citizens the authority to keep tabs on elected officials—but according to one reader, “the weather forecast for City Hall is always a chance of fog.”

According to state data released this week, Encinitas had 2,800 unemployed residents in February and the fell to 7.2 percent, down slightly from 7.4 percent in January.  The state puts Encinitas’ labor force at 38,300 with 35,600 employed.
