Encinitas Patch Week in Review

Taking a look back at the week of May 8, just in case you missed something.

This week, Encinitas Patch unveiled the Kook’s latest get-up, checked in on the progress of the General Plan Update, showed readers how to go green and more.

The was pranked again on Sunday, this time dressed as recently slain terrorist leader Osama bin Laden. The surfer statue was wearing a white robe and bloody turban and holding a fake assault rifle.

Parenting columnist Abi Cotler O’Roarty gave some advice Tuesday to working moms and dads trying to make the local their home office. “Even if you just need some time to pay bills, you know how unlikely it is that it’s going to get done at home—even with a sitter,” she said.

With longstanding roots in the community, father and son team Jeff and Jay Grygera decided to expand their San Marcos-based surfboard manufacturing company, , to include a Cardiff storefront.  Check out the pics!

Joseph Ricardo Fernandez, who is accused of killing bicyclist James Steven Swarzman in Leucadia last month, then leaving the scene, was ordered to stand Tuesday on a charge of hit-and-run causing death.  The trial is set for July 11.

Carlsbad Patch editor Deanne Goodman shared her tips for via video this week.  Her advice?  Try using a laptop instead of a desktop, taking a canvas bag to the grocery store and finding your news online (hint, hint!).

The Encinitas City Council discussed the results of the March 28 workshop on Wednesday night, including establishing more mixed-use land along the Encinitas Boulevard and El Camino Real, increasing walkability throughout the city and more. Staff will continue working on the report in order to release a final plan toward the end of summer.
