Encinitas Surf Report: Feb. 16

It's a great day for sleeping in—not for surf.

The forecasters were right on the money calling for rain. I was hoping that despite last night/this morning's rain, conditions would be clean. But that's not the case.

Winds and swell from the south combined with an onshore wind are making for very poor conditions. It is possible that there may be a fun pocket or two to be surfed today—if conditions switch.

If you're a surfaholic and need to get out there, check the conditions frequently. Right now, they're not looking fun at all, but you never know.

Of course, after the first significant rain, caution is supposed to be taken. If it's two-tenths of an inch of rain or more, you're supposed to stay out of the water because of elevated bacteria levels.

If you do end up going out, mega-dose on Vitamin C. Maybe even do a sinus flush.

All in all, it's a good day to stay in bed, or catch up on work, start that novel you've been putting off for the last decade, or watch a movie marathon.
