Lend a Hand in Habitat Conservation This Weekend

Saturday you can help clear out weeds at Moonlight Beach with the Cottonwood Creek Conservancy.

Cottonwood Creek Conservatory is inviting do-gooders out to the beach on Saturday for some native habitat restoration.

Originally planned for last week, the was rained out. But this Saturday, volunteers are encouraged to lace up their close-toed shoes and get to work — forecast calls for a sunny 75!

The group will be spreading mulch in several areas to get rid of annual weeds in a native habitat area at . You can help by bringing a wheelbarrow, a hand-truck, 32-gallon trash barrels, rakes and shovels. Of course, just showing up is help in and of itself.

Volunteers will meet up at the trail entrance just up from the southeast corner of B St. (extension of Encinitas Blvd. west of Coast Highway 101) and Third St., 2 blocks west of Coast Hwy. in Encinitas. Parking will be available on the street or in the big Moonlight Beach parking lot at the top of the hill on Third Street.

Wear some cloths you don’t mind getting dirty. Water and oranges will be provided. Those with questions or wishing to volunteer can contact Brad Roth at 760-436-2632 or broth@cox.net. The restoration is this Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
