Locals Only: Sheila Wirick

She's having a ball in Encinitas.

For 21 years, the has hosted the , the December fundraiser that helps provide scholarships and memberships to in-need individuals and partner organizations. For the past two years, the evening of dining, dancing, and lively silent auction bidding has been chaired by Sheila Wirick. Wirick, who is married and has two sons, ages 16 and 12, has lived in Encinitas for more than 15 years, and has been a YMCA member that whole time. Drafted into Poinsettia Ball service by her friend Lizbeth Ecke, she’s been on the ball’s organizing committee for eight years. While busily planning for this year’s gala on Dec. 10, she took time out to answer Encinitas Patch's Locals Only questionnaire.

Favorite thing to do at the YMCA: Do the YMCA dance during the ball, accompanied by the Wayne Foster Band.

Favorite meal at a local restaurant: I like to order lots of tapas at

Last purchase made in Encinitas: I bought chandeliers for my new kitchen at .

Ideal Encinitas day: I’d start out the morning with Zumba at Total Woman Gym, have a great lunch at , and then spend the evening at the beach during red tide.

Favorite civic organizations: The board of directors, The board of directors, and Meals on Wheels. I’ve delivered Meals on Wheels in the Encinitas area for 11 years now.

Favorite local business: I just discovered the and really love it.

Favorite Encinitas event: The , of course.

Best thing about living in Encinitas: It’s a safe, clean and close-knit community. I always see people I know around town.

The one thing she’d like to change about the city: Take out all the stop signs on Rancho Santa Fe Road. It takes forever to visit my friends who live down that way.

A place in Encinitas more locals should visit: . It’s a fun place.

How she’d dress up the Cardiff Kook: Put that famous Jennifer Lopez dress on it, the green one with the low-cut neckline.

Best place in the city to watch the sun set:
