Rancho Coastal Humane Society Gets $41K Grant

The money will be used to support efforts at its thrift store.

A good chunk of that money will be used to replace a 1984 Ford delivery truck —affectionately dubbed ‘The Beast’ — which staff and volunteers use to transport donations to the

“The Beast has definitely earned her keep," said RCHS President Jim Silveira in a news release. “But now it's time to replace the 28-year-old delivery truck with a safer, more reliable vehicle. Some of the money will also be used to fund an expansion and remodeling project at the thrift shop.

"We've been setting records at the Thrift Shop in terms of both the amount of items donated and the income from sales,” said thrift shop manager Brian Cook. “Every time the cash register rings that translates into dog or cat food, veterinary medical treatment for an animal in-need, escape for a victim of domestic abuse, and humane education for a child. We take this very seriously. We have to. The price of failure is too high."
