Surf Report & Forecast for April 15-16

Soft, peaky, knee- to waist-high conditions.

A combo of weak NW and even weaker SW with calm conditions creates for this morning a peaky mellow day of surf. Even outstanding local beach breaks, which have been dishing out some fun wind swell, are tempered this morning.

This morning's peak high tide at 8 a.m. might have something to do with the anemic power; the tide won't start significantly draining until around 11 a.m. so a late morning to noon paddle out might show a bit more force on spots that have good suck out potential.

A late afternoon paddle out on the incoming tide (low peaks at 2 p.m. at 0 feet; high tide crests at 8:15 p.m. at 5.6 feet) might be better as well but with today's weather being clear, sunny and warm at the beach, expect throngs of weekend warrior surfers to invade the lineup.

Sunset tonight: 7:21 p.m.; darkness by 8:15 p.m.

For Saturday, April 16, a dawn patrol session might work best because of radical tidal swings, the first one peaking at 8:45 a.m. at 5 feet. Wave heights will be similar to today, with the possibility of slightly bigger sets in the chest-high range.

Dawn patrol: 5:24 a.m.; sunrise: 6:19 a.m. If you're up early enough, catch the moonset at 5 a.m. I won't be, but good on you if you are!
