Surf Report & Forecast for March 22-23

Smaller, but not as much work as yesterday.

Wave heights are holding up at the shoulder-high range today. A new storm system moves in possibly later this afternoon, but is not expected to be as strong as yesterday's, which saw measurable hail on Coast Highway 101 in Solana Beach.

Call it 3-4 feet with the occasional 5-footer.

Water temperature is approximately 58-59 degrees (having briefly reached the 60 degree mark last week).

Morning high tides are finally starting to become less radical, although we will have tidal swings late in the evening.

High this morning is at about noon, reaching 4 feet, then dropping to 1 foot at 5:30 p.m. before spiking up to 6 feet at midnight.

Sunset tonight: 7:05 p.m. and dark by 8:00 p.m. Moon rises at 11:02 p.m.

Tomorrow, March 23, a rehash of yesterday may occur as a front moves in bringing a good chance of rain and those dreaded south winds. Wave heights will probably stay steady and may even be pushed into the head-high range with the combined windswell. Some spots might show a rare window of fun A-frames, despite the less than perfect conditions.

Dawn patrol: 5:58 a.m.; sunrise at 6:52 a.m. with low tide reaching rock bottom at 7 a.m. (-0.5 feet).
