Wondering how you’re going to spend your Cinco de Mayo? May we suggest with some swapping?
A is taking place on Saturday, May 5 at the store in Cardiff. The outdoor high-end clothing company, which is known for its environmentalism and “One percent for the Planet” policy, is encouraging long boarders, short boarders and everything in between to come to their Cardiff location for some recycling and reusing.
The swap is free to the public. All you have to do is show up with your old boards, check out the goods, and swap your stuff!
“We’ll have racks set up (five per person) in the back parking lot,” said sales rep Paul Amato. “We’ll have a little music and a little food.”
People interested in bringing their boards that are currently cluttering up their garages and other spaces should register for this event by 3 p.m. on Friday, May 4 by calling 760-634-9886 or emailing shipper_cardiff@patagonia.com.
“Instead of going on Craigslist or to a consignment store to sell your boards, you can do it here,” Amato said. “What happens between the seller and buyer is up to them. We just provide a fun place for them to sell.”
Re-Rip will also be at the event, so if you’ve got boards that are unsellable or unsalvageable, bring them to be recycled. Patagonia in Cardiff is a designated drop off for Re-Rip, so if you can’t bring your recyclable boards on Saturday, drop them off whenever you’re in town.
Ready to “hang five” boards get swappin’? Visit Patagonia on May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and find out what “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” really means. You may even get lucky and win a new Patagonia Regulator® R1® wetsuit!
“Everyone looks forward [to this event],” Amato said. “You might find a really cool board that’s been sitting in someone’s garage that you might not have otherwise seen.”
