The 3rd Annual Howl-O-Ween Parade and Pet Costume Contest on Saturday, Oct. 28 was one furry event! The event was sponsored by the and the new Coastal Animal Hospital, which is set to open November 3 — and registration proceeds benefited the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
With their owners in tow, canine participants strolled along Coast Highway 10 and showed off their Halloween spirit and creative attitudes — which you can get a glimpse of in this photo gallery. The walk went between stores such as North Fitness 101 and the Madd Potter, all the way north to the Leucadia Beach Inn. Trick or treating from store to store to get votes for the Merchant's Choice Award, dogs and their humans collected tickets and doggie treats from participating stores, while showcasing their festive costumes.
One dog owner said her dogs were very excited to participate in the event, and more eager to go on the long walk when they found out it ended with their favorite liver treats from Pup Planet.
In the Pup Planet and Plant Lady parking lot, Rancho Coastal Humane Society set up shop with goodies and information for visitors and participants. At the end of the event, judges from Leucadia Floral and Plant Lady, Pup Planet, Pink Peloton, and the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet Association collected participants' trick or treat ticket bags and tallied the votes for the Merchant's Choice Awards, Biggest Dog, Littlest Dog, Most Creative, and Most Traditional.
