Update: Encinitas Sand Replenishment Starts This Month

Encinitas is next line to to receive 286,000 cubic yards of sand as a part of the Regional Beach Sand Project.

In a couple weeks the Encinitas coastline will receive a large batch of sand, which will widen Batiquitos, Moonlight, and Cardiff beaches.

The project is part of SANDAG's regional effort to distribute more than 1.4 million cubic yards of sand from Imperial Beach to Oceanside.

Last month, Patch reported delays on the project in Encinitas due to a setback on equipment—and to avoid impacting grunion runs, nearby nesting and foraging shorebirds, and lobster season.

According to the City of Encinitas, starting on Oct. 23, Moonlight Beach will receive 89,000 cubic yards of sand. Cardiff will be next to have 92,000 cubic yards of sand deposited on the beach. Last will be Batiquitos with the most sand of 105,000 cubic yards.

Here is a breakdown of the schedule:

  • Oct. 23-28: Moonlight
  • Oct. 28- Nov. 2: Cardiff
  • Nov. 2- 14: Batiquitos
