Abstract Photo Exhibition Coming to Encinitas

Can you guess what was photographed? "Abstract" show July 22-Aug. 31 in Encinitas.

Do you always know what a photo shows?

That’s the challenge local photographers will pose to visitors at their exhibit July 22-Aug. 31 at the Encinitas Community Center.  The public can meet the artists at a reception on Saturday, July 26, 1 to 4 p.m.

Thirty members of The PhotoArts Group created photographic prints as abstract art, and figuring out what was actually photographed in many of the pieces has been difficult even for the coordinator of the show, Irv Lefberg.

“All of the works are based on the capture of a single image by a camera, but the colors, shapes, textures, forms and lines are emphasized over representation,” said Lefberg, a PAG member who lives in Escondido. “The works achieve their abstract quality often by focusing on details or parts of larger objects and scenes.  “Part of the enjoyment of the exhibit is trying to figure out what was actually photographed, ”Lefberg said.

The public is invited to an artists reception Saturday, July 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. for the show, aptly titled “Driven to Abstraction.” There will be free snacks and refreshments, including wine, and musical entertainment.  Most of the photos will be for sale, and most of their creators will be there to talk about the artwork.
