Learn How the Kumeyaay Used Cacti and Succulents and Plant Your Own

For the month of March, the San Dieguito Heritage Museum presents the history of cacti and succulents in the San Dieguito area.

The Kumeyaay Native Americans utilized these plants for everything from clothing and shelter to even food. Succulents survive on very little water and thrive in the dry California climate. Succulents will continue to be popular plants in the future as water conservation becomes a must.

While visitors learn about the role of succulents, they will be decorating a pot and planting a few succulents to take home. What a great starter activity for kids who are interested in history and horticulture.
