Learn Something New in 2012

Make your New Year's resolution fun with these classes offered by MiraCosta College.

 

It’s a new year, which means time to make those resolutions and stick to ‘em! We say forget the dieting and exercising regimens and instead make a resolution to learn something new.

MiraCosta College is helping feed the hungry minds of 2012. Both the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses are providing numerous fun and educational classes in the coming weeks, like cake decorating, oil painting, sewing and more.

Here are our top five picks for classes this spring. Call up 760-795-820 for questions and registration and click on the links for additional information. Have fun choosing your new activity!

  • Where/when: , beginning Jan. 28 at 9 p.m.
  • Quick details: This class is five weeks long and runs on Saturdays through May 19. You’ll learn about fondant, cupcake decorating, how to make flowers and more.
  • Price: $216 for the entire course, but you may take classes one at a time for $45-$55 per class. 
  • Where/when: , beginning Jan. 21 at 9 a.m.
  • Quick details: Keep your spending costs on clothes down this year by taking this sewing class that will teach beginners how to make dresses.
  • Price: $69.
  • Where/when: , on April 21 or at , on Jan. 28, both at 9 a.m.
  • Quick details: This one-day course will teach you the ins and outs of that new DSLR you got for Christmas.
  • Price: $60.
  • Where/when: , beginning Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Quick details: This class takes place the first Friday of every month, from February to June. You’ll learn about different varieties of wine throughout the world and their trademarks.
  • Price: $125.
  • Where/when: , beginning Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
  • Quick details: This intro to wine class is every Tuesday from Feb. 21-March 20 and gives you all the information you need to know to appreciate wine. Students are to take two wine glasses with them to each class for some tasting.
  • Price: $125 plus a $45 material fee.
