Editor's Note: The following annoucement was released on behalf of ScrapHound Studio on April 20.
ScrapHound Studio is the partnership of local metal artists Sheri Fox and Jon Rawlinson. Jon and Sheri love the challenge of creating new things from salvaged steel. They always prefer to get materials from the scrap pile rather than buy them new. Their work is influenced by the beauty they find in the natural character of steel and the shapes of the salvaged materials they collect. Their new furniture and sculpture collection will be featured in an upcoming art exhibit at First Street Gallery in Encinitas.
This will be Sheri’s first exhibit since taking ownership of Trios Gallery in 2002. Although her whimsical animal sculptures made occasional appearances at Trios, running the gallery did not leave her much time or energy for creating artwork. Since closing the gallery in October, she has been busy creating a new collection of metal birds, dogs, cats and more all made from scrap steel.
Jon has been creating and exhibiting his upcycled steel furniture and sculpture in galleries since 2003. From three-legged tables to large abstract wall sculptures, his distinctive style is best described as “rustic industrial.” His colorful steel flowers are currently featured in the San Diego Botanical Garden’s “Sculpture in the Garden” exhibit. Jon has been busy in the studio creating a new collection for the upcoming “Trios-a-Go-Go.”
Trios-a-Go-Go will be held at First Street Gallery, 820 S. Coast Hwy 101 in downtown Encinitas. The exhibit runs May 5 – 19, 2012, with an opening reception May 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Opening reception and gallery are free and open to the public. Hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. For information call 858-793-6040 or visit www.triosgallery.com.
