The Volkswagen Bus is arguably one of the most iconic rides out there today—and a new documentary explores the road its traveled to reach that cultural status.
The Bus has already been winning the hearts of audiences for months, but Thursday it will make its Southern California debut right here in Encinitas.
Thursday night at 8 there will be a free screening of the film in the store parking lot at S. Coast Hwy and J St. in downtown Encinitas.
“These vehicles have a certain charm that other vehicles somehow lack,” filmmaker Damon Ritasu told TBD.com in an interview. “The VW bus has become a cultural icon representing a powerful set of ideas and experiences, mostly centered around the freedom to go and do what you please. It enabled people to hit the road self-sufficiently.”
Thursday’s screening is presented by the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association (DEMA), and fittingly, it follows , which runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. the same night, and will feature more than 50 Volkswagen Buses.
Primo beer and Hansen Surfboards are also sponsoring the screening, and folding chairs will be provided—though moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own.
