MiraCosta College's Fall 2013 Community Services Classes

Classes are offered at both the San Elijo and Oceanside campuses.

MiraCosta College’s Community Services is offering the following information sessions and workshops:

  • MELT Method for Common Ailments: Mondays, 6:30-8 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff. Four sessions, which also may be taken individually: Session 1, Introduction to MELT Hand and Foot Therapy, 9/9; session 2, MELT for Low Back Pain, 9/16; session 3, MELT for Neck Pain, 9/23; session 4:MELT for Athletes and Weendend Wariors, 9/30. Fee: $25 per class; $90 for all four sessions.
  • Makeup and Skin Care Workshop: Thursday, 9/13, 7-9 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive; or Wednesday, 11/6, 7-9 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus. Fee: $59.
  • Makeup 101 Workshop: Thursday, 9/19, 7-9 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $59.
  • Mosaic Gifts: Thursdays, 9/12-10/24, 6-9 p.m., at the San Elijo Campus. Fee: $105.
  • Pilates & Yoga with Dance: Saturdays, 9/14-10/19, 1-2 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus; or Wednesdays, 10/16-11/20 at the San Elijo Campus. Fee: $70.
  • Italian Wine, Food, Culture and Language: Tuesdays, 9/10-10/15, 6-8 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus. Fee: $90. 
  • Japanese Cooking & Culture: Tuesdays, 9/10-10/15, 7-9 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus; or Saturdays, 9/14-10/19, 2-4 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus. Fee: $90.
  • Social Dances I: Fridays, 9/13-10/11 or Mondays, 10/21-11/25, 5:45-7:15 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus; or Fridays, 10/25-11/15, 5:45-7:15 p.m.at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $70.
  • Social Dances II: Fridays, 9/13-10/11 or Mondays, 10/21-11/25, 7:30-9 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus; or Fridays, 10/25-11/15, 7:30-9 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $70.
  • What a Deal! Wines Under $15: Thursdays, 9/12-10/17, 7-9 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $60.

 

  • Online Medical Courses Information Session: Thursday, 9/5, at the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive, Room 3601. Pharmacy Tech and Medical Transcription Programs at 6 p.m., online ICD-10 Coding and Billing Program at 7 p.m.
  • Alcohol & Drug Counselor Training Information Session: Friday, 9/6, 6:30 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus.
  • Manufacturing Machinist Technology Training Program: Monday, 9/9, 5 p.m., at the Landes Recreation Center, 2855 Cedar Rd., Oceanside.
  • Casino Dealer School Information Center: Monday, 9/9, 6 p.m., at the Landes Recreation Center.
  • Make Extra Income, Auto Wholesale Business from Home: Wednesday/Thursday, 9/11 and 9/13, 6-9:30 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $89.
  • Cash In with a Successful Home-Based Business: Thursday, 9/12, 6-8 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $50.
  • How to Make Money with a Home-Based Typing/Word Processing Business: Thursday, 9/12, 8-9 p.m. at the Oceanside Campus. Fee: $40.
  • How to Become a Financial and/or Real Estate Consultant: Thursdays, 9/19-10/3, 7-9 p.m., Oceanside Campus; or Wednesdays, 10/16-30, 7-9 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff. Fee: $75.
  • Real Estate Appraisal, A New Career/Home-Based Business: Friday, 9/20, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the San Elijo Campus. Fee: $55.

MiraCosta College Offers Red Cross Health Courses

MiraCosta College’s Community Services Program is offering two heart/first aid courses:

American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider Course: This class provides a wide variety of health care professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe and effective manner. This one-day class is available on 9/21, 10/19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and 11/23, 12/21, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in Room 3609 at MiraCosta College 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Fee is $65.

Heartsaver Adult/Child CPR & AED: Participants learn how to perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults and children, in addition to learning how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) on adult and child victims of cardiac arrest. Participants receive lifesaving information, hands-on training, and an American Heart Association booklet. This one-day class is scheduled for 9/21, 10/19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and 11/23, 12/21, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in Room 3609 at MiraCosta College 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Fee is $65.

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED: This course is recommended for medical professionals, lifeguards, fitness instructors, teachers, and public and private safety and security employees. This class teaches participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants; how to perform one- and two-rescuer CPR; how to use a resuscitation mask (pocket mask) and how to use an AED for victims of sudden cardiac arrest and how to handle common first aid emergencies. This one-day class is scheduled for 9/21, 10/19, 11/23, 12/21, in Room 3609, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Fee is $99.

English Language Institute at MiraCosta College 

The English Language Institute offers international students the opportunity to increase their English language proficiency and develop the skills needed for success in a college or university in the United States. This intensive English as a second language program provides individualized instruction in small classes. Dedicated professional faculty and state-of the-art computer software assist students in improving their reading, writing, listening, speaking and study skills. Topics covered will also include TOEFL preparation and the study of U.S. culture.
