Encinitas Forum to Shed Light on New 'Underwater Parks'

WiLDCOAST is hosting the free educational talk about marine protected areas.

You’ve been hearing about the newly established Marine Protected Area (MPAs) network in San Diego County for a while, especially recently when they Jan. 1. But do you really know what they are?

This weekend, the community can learn more about these protected areas that are being called “” at a community forum. The informative event is being put on by the conservation team from WiLDCOAST, an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the coastal areas in California and Latin America.

This event will feature guest speaker Dr. Octavio Aburto from The Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Aburto will discuss “Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park: A Marine Protected Area Success Story.”  Attendants will also learn the ins and outs of our MPAs, including:

The informative day begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Encinitas Community center and guests will get a chance to win a kayak tour in La Jolla’s Marine Protected Area. This event is free and open to the public, so bring the family over to the community center Sunday morning, April 15, for this great learning opportunity!
