Proposed Moratorium on New Alcohol Licenses Fails at Council

The Encinitas City Council rejected a moratorium on new alcohol licenses in Encinitas at its Wednesday meeting after hearing complaints from residents that the downtown area has become rowdy.

Council members Kristen Gaspar and Tony Kranz voted against the ban and said they don't yet support it—giving more time for businesses to come up with solutions, the U-T reported.

Councilman Mark Muir supported the ban, calling it a "good time out."
