San Diego County Businesses Challenged to Increase Ridesharing

SANDAG is challenging San Diego County businesses to set an example for ridesharing with the Rideshare 2013 Corporate Challenge.

The San Diego Association of Governments said entering the countywide competition can enhance a company's reputation as a sustainability leader and help its employees save money by adopting alternatives to solo commuting.

Businesses can sign up for the challenge online through Monday, Sept. 16. Free promotional materials will be provided

The Rideshare 2013 Corporate Challenge piggybacks on Rideshare Week, a nationally-recognized annual event held the first full week of October to promote sustainable commute choices, such as carpooling, vanpooling, biking, walking, taking public transit, teleworking, and compressed workweek schedules.

Businesses will compete within their size categories for the highest percentage of employees using an alternative commute choice during the month of October. Businesses get one point for every eligible commute trip their employees log online in TripTracker.

Winners will receive recognition in an advertisement in a regional newspaper and on the iCommute website, a commemorative plaque, and mention in a SANDAG press release. Employees who log trips throughout the challenge are eligible to win prizes, such as restaurant, entertainment, health and wellness gift certificates.

Last year, a record number of companies and agencies around the region, representing more than 87,000 employees, participated in the Corporate Challenge.
