San Diego consumers now have a new shopping resource right in their own community.  It’s called Great American Deals North County - San Diego, and unlike other daily deal sites that offer discounts for vendors that may not be local, Great American Deals connects shoppers who are looking for good values on popular products and services with retailers right around the corner, in their own immediate neighborhoods.

The result is a hyper-local website that focuses on the North County – San Diego community by offering daily discounted deals benefiting neighborhood businesses and consumers.  As an added benefit, for every purchase that customers make using the Great American Deals North County –  San Diego website, the company donates $1 to a local school, charity or non-profit of the consumer’s choice.

Jianna King, Jaysie McLinn and Jodi Gallen, three local ‘moms’ with strong business backgrounds (Jaysie was a strategist for Google for many years) and entrepreneurial spirits, were excited to launch Great American Deals North County - San Diego to support area merchants who, like them, are active and well-connected locally, and are attracted to the idea of giving back to the community.  “We loved the idea of partnering with ‘mom and pop’ businesses ingrained in the fabric of our immediate neighborhood, such as ourselves, while also offering an easy way for the community to support local non-profit and educational programs,” said Jianna King, Founder/President of Great American Deals North County – San Diego.  “We all have children either entering or already in the San Marcos School District and from our extensive involvement with our local schools, we know how much they depend on successful fundraising efforts such as this to underwrite essential programs depleted by state budget cuts.  The fact that we can connect area business operators with target consumers, and help our local schools makes this a win-win for all.”

Unlike other daily deal aggregator models, the Great American Deals franchise model looks at the power of buying local and the appeal of serving up neighborhood deals with laser precision to hometown residents who prefer to keep their spending dollars within the community.  It works because it benefits both local customers and businesses so efficiently – in a way that the big national brands can’t possibly do.  The concept is already taking off in other Southern California markets – serving bedroom communities and shoppers across the region, who are seeking better retail savings for themselves and their families.

According to King, local merchants are embracing the new online platform.  Plus, each sale through Great American Deals for products or services at one of these businesses has already landed dollars in the pockets of San Diego area schools and other service and cause-related programs.   “San Elijo Elementary's (SEES) Parent Teacher Organization’s partnership with Great American Deals North County (GAD) was a successful one,” said Nilda O'Reilly, president of the San Elijo Elementary PTO.  “Our SEES families helped raise a few hundred dollars for our school just by signing up with Great American Deals, and now they also benefit by getting amazing deals from local shops and restaurants."

The Great American Deals model in general has already raised more than $175,000 for schools in other Southern California communities, and the local North County team is hoping to do the same.   "Great American Deals - North County's Give Back Program is a great way to raise funds for our local schools and organizations, while also supporting local businesses and giving the community a chance to take advantage of great deals right in our own neighborhood," said Steve Kildoo, CEO, San Marcos Chamber of Commerce.
