2011 Resolutions: Your Patch Team Shares

Patchers are just like you. And just like you, we strive to lose weight, gain friends, be productive and make 2011 our best year ever.

It's that time again to set higher goals and expectations for ourselves in the new year. Here are the resolutions of Patchers around our region, and, as always, we encourage you to share your own resolutions.

"I don't do New Year's resolutions. I do, however, create a 'rainy day' list of activities to try, consume or accomplish in my free time. I add a book or two I want to read, a classic movie I missed, a restaurant I want to try and even a wrong I want to right. This year's top picks are getting out to karaoke, writing a column on best places to nap in La Jolla (think research) and to find delicious pizza in my neighborhood."—

"My resolution is to keep in touch with old friends. Specifically, trying my best to call or write back immediately, rather than procrastinating and eventually forgetting altogether."—

"Go to sleep earlier—at a normal hour!"—

"More push ups, less Push Pops."—

"In 2011 I resolve to get outside more, surf, hike, and explore all the beautiful and little-known corners of our county (instead of sitting at the computer all day)!"—

"Take a walk every day in my new EasyTones.  Oh, and learn how to knit."—

"To lose weight. How imaginative, right?"—

"At some point,  I resolve to figure out if we should call the new year two-thousand-eleven or twenty-eleven...or should it be two-zero-one-one? Ahh, the mystery of the future."—

"I resolve to be free of three things: fat, credit cards and profanity. I'm unsure as to whether this is all possible in the same year, but that's my story at least until February."—

"My New Year's resolution is to eat better and get out of my comfort zone. Most important, I want to make the new year my best year ever."—

"My New Year's resolutions are to not give my puppy table scraps, exercise more, and boycott the NFL playoffs since the Chargers declined participation in the 12-team field."—

"This new year I plan on jogging every day, eating healthier, and getting back into the shape I was when I was playing college soccer."—

"To learn to put my journalistic wall down and give myself the opportunity to fail in my personal life, as advised by my Torrey Pines Christian Church small group leader Brandon Stone, who triples up as my fave sports reporter and best friend."—

"My New Year's resolution is that I want to 'find some slim' as opposed to 'losing weight.' I'm thinking that maybe I'll be more motivated to eat less and exercise more if I'm 'finding' something compared to 'losing' something."—

"I have a problem following my New Year's resolutions because I never remember what that resolution was. If I do, I can never resolute beyond a week or two; age equals forgetfulness. And the impending guilt for not keeping it is a waste of guilt. Eating too many holiday treats is a better use of that guilt. I got it! My New Year's resolution is to not feel guilt about not keeping that New Year's resolution of which I won't make anyway. Problem solved. Happy New Year, Patch readers!"—

"Get in great shape, eat better, and have a rocking bikini body in time for summer. Also, make Carlsbad Patch one of the top Patches in the U.S."—

"My mantra for the coming year is exploration. Of course, I want to improve myself in all areas, but a goal that I hold dear is to see and experience more of the world beyond my life. This includes travel, reading new materials, diving into unfamiliar activities, etc. Those who explore, I believe, have less questions about life later on, and these days I am full of questions."—

"In 2011, I resolve to try, and fail, and try again. I want to find a balance between careful planning and spontaneity, and say 'yes' more often than 'no.' "—

"My New Year's resolution is to think through all my actions thoroughly. To eliminate the urge within me to drift mentally and forget that my life is happening right now. My other resolution is to be five minutes early to each and every one of my appointments. I also want to continue my resolution from last year to read, at the very least, one book a month. Lastly, I resolve to embrace every opportunity to learn."—

"In 2011, I will cherish and nurture relationships with family and friends, enhance my surroundings every day, even if it is only sharing a smile, and be proactive in all ways possible."—

"For 2011, I'm challenging myself to branch out in the world of food. Starting Jan. 1, my goal is to try at least one new dish a week, whether it be something I prepare at home or a selection spotted on a local menu."—

"This year I'm determined to take my writing to the next level, be more productive—and to pull out, complete and even find a publisher for at least one of the children's novels and picture books that I've started but neglected over the last couple of years. I also intend to spend more time boating with my husband and two seacats!"—
