Cardiff Kook Run Expected to Attract Thousands

The event will take place on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3 and runners are encouraged to take part in costumes.

You can burn your Super Bowl Sunday calories before you consume them by taking part in the 2013 Cardiff Kook Run 10k and 5k.

The event attracted nearly 2,000 people last year, and is expected to attract at least 2,500 runners in its second year, said organizer Steve Lebherz.

The event is for runners and walkers of all abilities and, in addition to having performance-related awards, organizers will recognize individuals and groups with the best costumes.

Last year many of the costumes were inspired by ways citizens have dressed the “Magic Carpet Ride” statue.

The run was inspired when Steve Lebherz—a benefactor to the statue—and co-organizer Seth Brewer, who ran on Super Bowl Sunday, and wondered why others didn't also run that day.

“We can’t believe that more people don’t do this," Lebherz said.
