The run takes place Feb. 3, Super Bowl Sunday.

He plans to use proceeds from this year’s event to fund a ramp that would allow people to get from Coast Highway to the State Beach parking lot safely and, in addition, to landscape the area around the Cardiff Kook.

It may take a few years of runs for such a project to come into fruition, he added.

So far, some 1,000 racers have signed up for the event, which takes place on Super Bowl Sunday.

In its first year, last year, the event brought in $8,000 for Cardiff 101 Main Street, which funded masonry work, banister upkeep and regular power-washing of the “Magic Carpet Ride” statue.

Prices for the run begin at $39 and participants are encouraged to run in costume.
