Coastkeeper Executive Director Reznik Resigns

After 11 years on the job, Bruce Reznik is stepping down – but officials say he will remain involved with the organization.

Bruce Reznik, executive director of San Diego Coastkeeper, will step down after 11 years as the head of the environmental organization, it was announced Friday.

Though he has resigned from the position, officials for the group said Reznik will still have an active role in advocating for the organization, which works to protect inland and coastal waters.

"It's time for me to pursue the next chapter in my professional career," Reznik said in a statement. "I look forward to San Diego Coastkeeper continuing its legacy as an environmental powerhouse in the region."

Reznik joined Coastkeeper as executive director in 1999 and has since championed efforts to reduce sewage spills in San Diego and lobbied for better water-quality monitoring.  He has also worked with the San Diego Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, based in Encinitas, to lead bi-monthly local beach cleanups.

Gabriel Solmer, the legal director for Coastkeeper, will be acting executive director while the organization looks for a permanent replacement, officials said.
