Encinitas Environment Day Set for June 9

EE Day 2013 takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 9 at Cottonwood Creek Park, 95 Encinitas Boulevard.

The following is a release from the City of Encinitas:

Seven years ago, a few environmentally committed Encinitans determined to think globally and act locally by creating the first Encinitas Environment Day (EEDay).

As a result of the enthusiasm engendered at that first event, the festival has grown in participants, activities and educational opportunities.
John Gjata, an event founder, recalls, “We initiated EE Day with the intent to produce a small, community event involving Encinitas residents and government as well as local businesses and artists. We have remained true to that original concept while encouraging people to work together toward environmental sustainability in a way that makes economic sense.”

EE Day 2013 takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 9 at Cottonwood Creek Park, 95 Encinitas Boulevard. It is free and open to the public. To encourage use of alternative transportation, anyone who walks or rides a bike to the event will receive a free raffle ticket. The Coaster runs on Sundays for out-of-town guests.
Organizers expect 3,000+ people, and they’ll be ready for them with exciting activities, including films (in partnership with Whole Foods), food (local, of course!), live music and interactive entertainment. Features include Wyland Mobile Learning Center, Encinitas Union School District art projects, paper-making, and the perennial crowd favorite: EE Day’s famous pedal-powered smoothie-maker.

New this year are a scavenger hunt, bike rodeo and free shuttle service to the Leucadia Farmers’ Market. Sponsors include Dudek, EDCO and Plan SEA.
Environmentally related City departments and employees will be on hand to educate event-goers. Exhibitors purveying the latest eco-friendly products and services will staff dozens of booths.
