Encinitas Schools, North County Businesses Sign On to Live Well

The Encinitas Union School District and the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce have joined the County's ongoing initiative to improve the health and safety of residents.

The County of San Diego recently made the following announcement: 

A commitment to healthier students and a focus on workplace wellness has resulted in County officials naming two North County agencies the latest partners in the regional Live Well San Diego initiative.

The Encinitas Union School District and the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce have joined the County’s ongoing initiative to improve the health and safety of residents.

“The work the Encinitas Union School District is doing to promote healthy choices among its students complements and embodies what we are trying to achieve through Live Well San Diego,” said Supervisor Dave Roberts, County Board of Supervisors, District 3.

The Encinitas school district Health and Wellness Program provides hands-on learning on gardening, organic farming and promotes physical activity.

The San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, which has more than 800 members, is a resource for the business community on  healthcare issues and it provides practical tools on its workplace wellness web site.

“Businesses that focus on healthy and safe workplaces have lower absenteeism and more productive employees,” said Supervisor Bill Horn, County Board of Supervisors District 5. “That is good not only for the bottom line of the businesses, but also for our regional economy.”

In 2010, the County of San Diego launched Live Well San Diego to improve the health, safety and well-being of residents. An important goal of the initiative is working with schools and businesses.

“Our schools are focused on developing healthy habits of eating, behavior, and choices for our students,” said Carol Skiljan, Encinitas Union School District trustee.

Debra Rosen, Chief Executive Officer for the San Diego North Chamber, said “the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce recognizes the link between the health, safety, and wellbeing of businesses, employees and communities. We are committed to upholding the goals of Live Well, San Diego by promoting thriving businesses.”
