Kirkland's in Encinitas to Close After Not Renewing Lease

There are only three other retail locations in the region, but none of them is particularly close to Encinitas – San Ysidro, Lake Elsinore and Temecula.

There's one fewer store in Encinitas to buy things to spruce up your house.

Kirkland's will not be renewing its lease in the Encinitas Ranch Town Center, according to a report in U-T San Diego.

The retailer, which specializes in home furniture and decor goods, had held the lease on the space the shopping plaza for eight years. It announced in a statement that it is not renewing the lease, as it is seeking larger space for a new store.

According to U-T San Diego, the store will close on June 30, and all of its 20 seasonal and full-time employees "are encouraged to apply for openings at other locations."

"Through the years, our products and inventory have gotten larger, and the larger footprint gives our customers easier access to our store and makes the experience better," spokeswoman Jessica Charlton told the newspaper.

The retailer, based in Nashville, Tenn., started in 1966, serving the Southeast United States. Since that time, it has grown to more than 300 stores in 35 states.
