Local Businesses Earn Bike to Work Awards

SANDAG announced the five Bike to Work Corporate Challenge winners on Thursday.

A total of 70 San Diego County companies competed in SANDAG’s 2012 Bike to Work Corporate Challenge last month. SANDAG and Bike to Work sponsor Tri-City Wellness Center encourage workers to support “bicycling as a viable, environmentally-friendly, cost-saving commute choice.”

“The success of Bike to Work Day and the Corporate Challenge shows that San Diegans are embracing alternative forms of transportation,” said SANDAG Executive Director Gary Gallegos in an announcement. “That’s exciting because over the next four decades the 2050 Regional Transportation Plan adopted by SANDAG calls for investing $3.8 billion in bicycling projects and other active transportation programs.”

Bike to Work Day was May 18. More than 7,200 cyclists rode their bikes to work, a nearly 20 percent increase from 2011.
