Make Your Dog a TV Star

San Diego's newest network, DOGTV, is inviting local pooches to come try out for the small screen.

Think your pooch has what it takes to hit the small screen? Let them try out for the next this weekend!

DOGTV is the newest channel to hit San Diego televisions, launching last month on Cox and Time Warner Cable. It’s available free for those provider’s subscribers for a limited time and is a channel dedicated solely to dogs.

“We love our dogs so much, we feel guilty when we leave them home alone,” Katelyn O’Riordan of Gable PR said in an email to Patch. “With the help of top experts in animal science, DOGTV was developed to provide a form of entertainment that relaxes and stimulates our dogs, keeping them healthy and happy.”

DOGTV programming is designed and produced in strict accordance with dogs’ unique sense of sight, hearing, and movement detection, and it supports dogs’ natural behavior patterns. DOGTV co-founder and chief content officer Ron Levi came up with the idea six years ago when he felt guilty about leaving his beloved cat behind while he went to work for the day. Levi experimented with television’s visuals and sounds to entertain his cat, Charlie, and from there, he created Charlie TV, which has now evolved to DOGTV.

“What started with his cat, all went to the dogs!” O’Riordan said.

Are your ears perked up yet? You can bring your pooch down to Muttropolis on Saturday for a screen test. All dogs are welcome, both big and small.

“The screen test will allow the DOGTV team and the pet parent to see how your dog does on-camera,” O’Riordan said. “DOGTV will shoot a short video of your dog to see how he reacts to being filmed. Your pooch will have a few minutes to show off his personality and/or any tricks.”

This fun event, which will include The Dog Shack gourmet food truck, will help prepare the pets and their owners for another casting call for DOGTV in April. You’ll get behind-the-scenes insight to DOGTV and a chance to win a doggie gift basket from Muttropolis!

Aside from The Dog Shack, who will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to , Jodina from the Middays at KPRi will be present hosting the event and a photographer and videographer from DOGTV will be on hand to capture the cuteness.

“This event will be a really great opportunity for your dog to learn what it takes to be on camera,” O’Riordan said. ”It will also be a way for you and your dog to make new local friends!”

Is your doggy made for the TV? Bring them down to Muttropolis in Solana Beach, located at 227 S Cedros Ave., on March 24. This fun event is free and open to the “pup-lick.“
