Man Finds Possible Grenade At Cardiff State Beach

A man using a metal detector to scan for buried valuables at Cardiff State Beach this afternoon uncovered a rusty object that
he believed might be a hand grenade.
The discovery off the 2700 South Coast 101 in Encinitas was reported
just after 3 p.m., sheriff's Lt. Mike Munsey said.
Deputies kept the public out of the area while a bomb squad examined the
object, the nature of which remained unclear in the early evening.
