In Good Taste: Dinner to Raise College Scholarship Funds

The Mexican American Educational Guidance Association is hosting a benefit dinner in Solana Beach Tuesday.

Mexican barbecue is delicious, but it tastes even better when you’re eating it for a cause.

The Mexican American Educational Guidance Association (MAEGA) is holding its annual at Tony’s Jacal Mexican Restaurant in Solana Beach next week. The dinner, which will consist of beef, rice, beans, salad, salsa, tortillas and dessert, is being held to raise money for scholarships for the MAEGA’s 2012 year.

According to its website, the MAEGA was “established in 1970 in response to a growing concern over the inability of qualified high school students of Mexican descent to attend college due to financial obstacles.” Since then, its mission has been to promote education beyond high school for San Dieguito Union High School District students of Latino heritage. They provide one-year scholarships to deserving low-income Hispanic students in the San Dieguito district. The scholarships go toward four-year universities, community colleges and certified vocational schools.
