Public Invited to June 13 Grand Re-Opening of Moonlight State Beach

The City operates and maintains all services and facilities under a long-term lease with the State. State funds covered $1.9 million of the $4.8 million renovation.

The following is a release from the City of Encinitas:

On June 13, less than ten months after ground was broken for the renovation of Moonlight State Beach at 400 B Street, the community is invited to share in the City’s festive Ribbon Cutting and Grand Re-Opening of Moonlight State Beach. The event time of 5:30-7:30 pm was specifically selected to show off Moonlight to its very best advantage: at sunset!

“We were eager to re-open this popular amenity in time for the summer season,” says Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Rudloff. “The Grand Re-Opening will feature an official ribbon-cutting ceremony plus tours of the new buildings, a question-and-answer session with project staff, light refreshments and, of course, a gorgeous sunset.”

Moonlight’s renovation will shine as a community amenity enjoyed by the hundreds of thousands of people who are drawn to the 15.4-acre site throughout the year. The City operates and maintains all services and facilities under a long-term lease with the State. State funds covered $1.9 million of the $4.8 million renovation.

The project, which was accomplished to remedy deteriorating facilities, has increased the public recreation area, including sandy spots, while modernizing key elements accessed by staff and visitors.

The moldy old restroom and concession buildings were replaced by a sparkling, 3,600-square-foot restroom/concession building at the bottom of the parking lot. Another “fan-friendly” improvement is the new C Street equipment garage rooftop, which was created to serve as an overlook offering a spectacular view. As visitors to the renovated Moonlight State Beach will be pleased to note, the design of the new structures celebrates the ocean environment while incorporating green features.

Rudloff says she hopes to see lots of families at the June 13th Grand Re-Opening. “We encourage people to bring a beach chair or blanket, get comfy and enjoy a memorable Moonlight evening!”
