Sewage Spills Onto Moonlight Beach

A blockage in a manhole caused thousands of gallons of sewage to spill on Sunday.

A sewage spill fouled the waters of Moonlight Beach Sunday, and signs warning of contamination will be posted until samples indicate the water is safe to enter, according to county officials.

Blockage in a manhole at the corner of Encinitas Boulevard and Vulcan Street caused approximately 6,200 gallons of sewage to spill into a storm drain that leads to Moonlight Beach, according to a statement released by the county.

The spill was reported at 11:20 a.m. and ended at 12:40 p.m. when city crews removed the blockage.
